WHO NEEDS ROUTINE FOOT CARE SERVICES AND WHY?

Typical Clients Are...

Anyone who cannot handle the challenging task of maintaining routine care of their feet and a nail salon is not an option. Some of these challenges include:

  • Thick toenails that the average toenail clipper cannot handle

  • Toenails that grow inward (most often at the corners)

  • Calluses that are just too difficult to trim

  • Loss of vision where one can no longer see well-enough to care for their feet

  • Loss of strength or pain in hands due to arthritis

  • Improper tools

  • For one reason or another, one can no longer reach their feet

Why Receive Routine Foot Care?

Since routine foot care is typically not a covered medical benefit, that leaves a large percentage of the population with a problem. Many try to solve the problem by ignoring it, which eventually leads to bigger problems such as:

  • Pain due to overgrown toenails and calluses

  • Ingrown toenails

  • Possible infection

Avoiding Risk or Injury...

When people attempt to trim their toenails or calluses themselves it can often lead to:

  • Cutting themselves

  • Difficulty stopping the bleeding due to blood-thinning medications

  • Infection due to cutting too deep

  • Pain in their foot/feet because they inadvertently created a wound

Maintaining the natural growth of toenails and calluses helps avoid possible complications such as:

  • Infections

  • Serious medical conditions of the feet or toes such as ulcers; especially important to people who are diabetic or have some form of vascular compromise, such as poor circulation

  • Pain and discomfort

  • Visits to the doctor, urgent care or emergency room

Helping to Maintain Your Social Acitvities...

Many people can only wear socks or slippers because their toenails or calluses are too painful for outside shoes. If one cannot wear outside shoes they often:

  • Do not go for a walk, run or other form of exercise

  • Do not go to the doctor when they should

  • Stop going out or meeting up with friends to socialize

  • No longer attend family/close friend functions

  • Stop traveling for pleasure

  • Become isolated and depressed

Whether I am providing foot care services for people with relatively simple toenails and calluses,

or for people with very difficult, overgrown and painful toenails and calluses,

there remains a serious need for routine foot care.

Without regular routine foot care, there is potential for a once vibrant person to slowly become less active physically, socially and mentally. All of this affects their ability to thrive and has the potential of a negative effect on their quality of life.
